Reveathy

Qui a fait vos habits? Revathy apprend à coudre à Jacobswell. A tout juste 18 ans, ses aptitudes dans ce métier vont avoir un impact important dans sa vie. Beaucoup de jeunes femmes (en Inde) sont mariées très jeunes afin de soulager leurs parents. Une fois mariées, elles n’ont souvent plus l’opportunité de travailler en-dehors de chez elles. Avoir un métier peut permettre à ces jeunes femmes de devenir indépendantes financièrement, d’aider leur famille et de prendre le temps de prendre les bonnes décisions quant à leur futur. Reveathy est en formation depuis mars 2015 et ses compétences en couture deviennent chaque jour meilleures!

Sumitra

Si vous avez fait faire des habits chez Jacobs Well, il est très probable que Sumitra était impliquée dans le processus. Sumi a débuté auprès de Jacobs Well après le tsunami de 2004. Elle a fait partie de l’équipe qui est allée à Chennai enseigner la broderie à des femmes qui avaient tout perdu dans la catastrophe.

Une fois rentrée à l’atelier de couture à Bangalore, Sumi a appris les ficelles du métier de couturière. Elle ne voulais plus s’arrêter! Ces quelques dernières années, elle a développé ses compétences au point d’être une des meilleures couturières de Jacobs Well. A présent, c’est elle qui gère tous les prototypes pour les clients. De la soie glissante des robes de mariées aux détails les plus complexes en passant par des finitions parfaites, Sumi a appris à tout maîtriser. Elle parvient aussi très bien à enseigner aux autres couturières la construction du vêtement. Enfin, elle travaille directement avec les clients internationaux pour passer en revue les prototypes de leurs collections. C’est magnifique de voir à quel point elle est devenue une jeune femme sûre d’elle!

Ammu

Devinez qui est retourné sur les bancs de l’école? Après l’expérience pleine de succès de Kalaivani l’année dernière, cette année, notre support va à Ammu afin qu’elle complète sa scolarité élémentaire. Ammu a du quitter l’école lorsqu’elle était petite en raison de problèmes de santé. Mais c’est une femme très éveillée qui a toujours été prête à effectuer des tâches administratives à Jacobs Well. Alors qu’elle a commencé les cours la semaine passée, nous ne sommes pas surpris qu’elle soit déjà première de classe!

Ammu va à l’école tous les matins de 8 heures à 10 heures et demi avant de nous rejoindre à Jacobs Well. Actuellement, elle étudie l’Hindi, l’Anglais et le Kannada.

Voici son témoignage:

« Je sais parler l’Hindi mais c’est la première fois que j’apprends à l’écrire. L’enseignant dit que j’apprends vite.

Ma matière préférée est l’Anglais car c’est la langue que j’utilise à mon travail à Jacobs Well. Je sais que si j’étudie avec application, je pourrais participer plus aux tâches administratives et continuer d’avoir une place importante dans l’équipe. Au delà de ma carrière, je sais que le fait de terminer mes études aura un impact important sur toute ma famille et mes futures enfants ». 

C’est un vrai bonheur de voir à quel point Ammu a du plaisir à suivre ces cours et comme cela lui donne confiance en elle. Si on ajoute son esprit entrepreneurial, on peut s’attendre à un futur brillant!

Reveathy

Wer hat Ihre Kleider genäht? Revathy ist dabei es zu lernen! Sie ist gerade 18 Jahre alt und berufliche Fähigkeiten werden einen grossen Unterschied in ihrem Leben machen. In Indien werden viele junge Frauen sehr früh verheiratet, um ihre Eltern zu entlasten. Nach der Heirat haben sie kaum mehr die Möglichkeit, ausserhalb des Hauses zu arbeiten. Ein Beruf kann junge Frauen befähigen, finanziell unabhängig zu werden, ihre Familien zu unterstützen und sich die Zeit zu nehmen, fundierte Entscheidungen über ihre Zukunft zu treffen. Revathy wird seit rund einem Monat hier in Jacobs Well ausgebildet und entwickelt ihre Nähfertigkeit glänzend !

Sumitra

Wenn Sie je Kleider getragen haben, die bei Jacobs Well hergestellt worden sind, ist es sehr wahrscheinlich, dass Sumitra an den Arbeiten beteiligt war. Sumi kam zum ersten Mal in Kontakt mit Jacobs Well nach dem Tsunami in Asien von 2004. Sie gehörte zum Team, das den Frauen in Chennai, deren Existenzgrundlage von der Katastrophe vernichtet worden war, Unterricht im Sticken erteilte.

Nach ihrer Rückkehr ins Nähatelier in Bangalore lernte Sumi zum ersten Mal Kleider zu schneidern, und dann gab es für sie kein Halten sie! In den letzten Jahren ist sie aufgeblüht und ist heute eine der leistungsfähigsten Näherinnen, die wir haben. Sie ist für die Herstellung aller komplizierten Musterstücke für unsere Kunden zuständig. Sie beherrscht die Verarbeitung glatter, seidiger Stoffe für Hochzeitskleider bis hin zu schwierigen Details und einer makellosen Verarbeitung. Sie ist eine grossartige Lehrerin für unsere anderen Schneiderinnen und zeigt ihnen, wie ein Kleidungsstück Schritt für Schritt aufgebaut wird. Sumi arbeitet auch direkt mit unserer internationalen Kundschaft an deren Musterstücken. Es ist wunderbar zu sehen, welch selbstbewusste junge Dame sie geworden ist!

Ammu

Ratet mal, wer wieder zur Schule geht? Nach Kalaivanis Erfolg im vergangenen Jahr unterstützen wir nun Ammu, damit sie ihren Schulabschluss machen kann. Als Kind verliess Ammu die Schule aus gesundheitlichen Gründen vorzeitig. Aber sie ist sehr gescheit und möchte gerne mehr Verwaltungsarbeiten im Büro von Jacobs Well übernehmen. Schon nach der ersten Woche Unterricht ist sie nun Klassenbeste – für uns keine Überraschung!

Ammu geht jeden Morgen von 8.00 bis 10.30 zur Schule, bevor sie bei Jacobs Well zur Arbeit kommt. Derzeit hat sie Unterricht in Hindi, Englisch und Kannada.

In Ammus eigenen Worten:

« Ich kann Hindi sprechen, aber lerne nun zum ersten Mal, es auch zu schreiben. Mein Lehrer sagt, dass ich sehr gute Fortschritte mache. Mein Lieblingsfach ist Englisch, weil wir diese Sprache im Büro von Jacobs Well benutzen. Ich weiss, dass wenn ich in der Schule gut vorwärtskomme, ich auch mehr Verwaltungsarbeiten übernehmen kann und weiterhin ein wichtiger Teil des Teams im Büro sein werde. Ein Schulabschluss ist nicht nur für meine Karriere wichtig, er wird auch einen grossen Einfluss auf meine ganze Familie und meine zukünftigen Kinder haben« .

Es ist eine wahre Freude zu sehen, wie Ammu täglich mehr Selbstvertrauen und Freude am Unterricht gewinnt. Kombiniert mit ihrem Unternehmergeist zeichnet sich für sie eine vielversprechende Zukunft.

Reveathy

Who made your clothes? Revathy is learning to make them! At just 18 years old, vocational skills will make a huge difference in her life. Many young women (in India) are married very early to ease a burden on their parents, after which they may not have the opportunity to work outside the house. Having a vocation can empower young women to become financially independent, support their families and take the time to make informed decisions about their future. Revathy has been training here at Jacobs Well for around a month and her tailoring skills are coming on brilliantly!

Sumitra

If you’ve ever had clothes made at Jacobs Well, it’s very likely Sumitra was involved in making them. Sumi first got involved with Jacobs Well after the 2004 Asian tsunami when she was part of the team sent to teach embroidery to women in Chennai whose livelihoods had been devastated by the disaster.

Returning to the stitching unit in Bangalore, Sumi learned tailoring skills for the first time and then there was no stopping her! Over the last few years, she has blossomed to become one of the most capable seamstresses we have and she now leads all of the complicated sampling work for our clients. From conquering slippery, silky wedding dress fabrics to navigating tricky details and immaculate finishing, Sumi has cracked it all. She does a great job of teaching our other tailors how to construct a garment and has also been working directly with our visiting international clients on their samples. It’s wonderful to see the confident young lady she has become! ‪

Ammu

Guess who’s gone back to school?  Following Kalaivani’s success last year, this academic year we are supporting Ammu to complete her vital 10th Standard exams.  Ammu left school early as a child due to ill health but she’s extremely bright and has always been keen to take on administrative work in the Jacobs Well office.  Having joined the tuition classes last week it is no surprise that she’s top of the class already!

Ammu goes to classes every morning from 8am to 10:30am before coming to work at Jacobs Well.  She is currently studying Hindi, English and Kannada languages.

In Ammu’s own words:

“I can speak Hindi but this is the first time I am learning to write it and the teacher says I am a very fast learner.  

My favourite subject is English since it is what we use in the Jacobs Well office.  I know that by studying hard I can help with more administration work and continue to be an important part of the team in the office.  As well as my career, I know that completing my education will have a big impact on my whole family and any children I have in the future.”

It is a real joy to see the confidence and pleasure Ammu has already gained from her classes – combined with her entrepreneurial spirit, her future is very bright!
